Hooray For 365 Monsters

With all the power of 365 of his closest friends and most horrid enemies, Pumpkin Stumps jumped high into the air with an explosive blast. A celebration like no other was about to begin.

The only way I could think to end a monster art project was to draw a new monster.
If you've seen every post since monster # 1 posted a year ago tonight or this is the first post you've ever set your monster-loving eyes on, I want to say thank you. Monsters have always been a part of my art and this project let me push them to the forefront for a while.
It's been fun, scary, confusing, difficult, and so much more along the way. In the end I achieved my original goal of keeping busy, exercising my creativity, and creating at least one new piece of artwork per day.
You've helped me to do that and also played a large part of the project and I couldn't have done it without you. I can't thank my readers/viewers enough (I love the pictures best of course).
This isn't the end. New monsters and posts will appear on here from time to time. I would very much like to publish this project as a book so look for that and please send word if you can help or have interest. It would be great to show the remaining collection as an exhibit as well.
In the Spring or Summer of 2010 I'll be starting my next blog project called "52 Farms". This new project will feature fewer pieces of artwork than 365 Monsters at one per week but the work will be more ambitious and larger. 52 different working farms within reasonable distance of my studio (mostly Montgomery & Bucks counties in PA) will be featured. Their info will be made available and a painting or drawing will be completed and posted.
I know this is a bit different than all of the monstery fun we had this year. I hope you'll come along for another ride.

Know your footwear.
Once these sneakers are on and the laces are tied, shoe monsters spring to life. They quickly knot the laces to keep themselves attached. When there's no longer any chance of escape, the shoe monsters begin the worst case scenario for the wearer. they go hunting for meat.

Gamgam Rizzleshmidt is one of those inspirational creatures that humans rarely hear about. He delights in the downfall of societies, traversing alternate realities to annihilate interdimensional targets, dancing on the souls of unscrupulous food servers, and he also crafts his own delicious batches of homebrew in his garage.
Someday Gamgam would like to have his own pair of custom made lederhosen.

being unable to die has its ups and downs.
Sure, Teddy can't actually get hurt and he'll never be sick, but all of his get-up and go is all gone-out and went. When he was surprised in his craggy 'ol cave he just shrugged it off and waved at us once as he grumbled. It's just sad to see.

It was a quiet morning just like so many others. You stepped out of bed dipping your toes into those trusty sneaks by the bedside. The bite was only a little warning nipper on the littlest piggy this time. It's enough of a message to remember to keep your feet out of there...be safe

It was a slap-happy wonderful kinda day for Barry. Slap-happy-tastic right up until he came across those cherries. Due to an incident in the mid 80's with Ms. Pacman herself, cherries (and other random fruits seen floating by) set Barry off and put him on edge in the worst way.

His mother named him Virgil after his grandaddy. Now everyone calls him Verny-Shinbones for so many obvious reasons. Verny is misunderstood because of his people-eating tendencies and is generally under-appreciated overall. he's really quite friendly though...when he isn't hungry.

Sasquatch's cousin Lydia watched the ladies playing tennis and wanted to be one of them. It took some hard work and perseverance but she's really having fun and strengthening her core. It seems that some of the finer points are lost on her though.

Arthur the giant leaping fishman trudged onto the damp shoreline. He scooped up two unsuspecting rag-people. The smell alone was enough to have them incapacitated instantly.
now that he's had his snack, Arthur can go back to bed a happy camper. It isn't easy hanging out above sea level when you're a giant leaping fishman.

Lepton Fred and Herman P. Marvin began life as best buddies. They spent every waking moment romping, stomping, and tearing it up. Sometime in the late 80's Herman got into scrapbooking hardcore. Lepton Fred felt he had lost his friend and reacted by smashing buildings all over town. The onset of the new millennium and a booming housing market found these two pals back together again. here we see them partying down like it's 1999.

"Shazam kappow!!!" is all that an unsuspecting victim of the Yellow Marauder might remember hearing after regaining consciousness. This yellow jerk doesn't help anybody. he isn't in it to commit crimes or get large sums of money. He's just mean and terrible and very fast with his own made-up style of karate.

Troglodyte princes of war are preparing to lay siege to the surface world. They are mere meters below your feet angry and mean; turquoise skin stained from the earth's minerals leeching into them in their dank dark existence underground.

Although they seem quite morbid and dangerous to be around, the Skull Sucker is quite safe...I assure you. They're actually scavengers, not predators as many people believe. On top of that, they're also great snugglers (if you can get past the smell).

Oh Eugene. So sad looking...all hunched over like that with his hand on his sweaty head. He's so sad because nobody remembers to bring him crab cakes anymore.

A battle of epic proportions has waged on for centuries. It goes unnoticed because The Hamfisted Destroyer and Puppy master have been scrapping it up outside the normal borders of our society. The fight has lasted for so long because both of them are too scared of damaging their puppies and piggies to actually touch each other.
